Supporting the Egyptian Anti-Government Demonstrators

imageI just finished an article (see the link below) about how Secretary of State Clinton praised the demonstrators in Egypt who are overthrowing the current autocratic leader Hosni Mubarak.  She made the statement “The pyramids are magnificent but nowhere near as what you have already done”. Isn’t the person they are overthrowing the same one who we have sold an almost infinite number of advanced technology war planes and other weapons of mass destruction to?  If it was so wonderful to overthrow this guy then why were we supplying him with all those weapons.  I think one of the definite requirements for being Secretary of State is that you must have the neck of a bull. Otherwise the ultra rapid 180 degree turns would certainly be mortal! Smile

It doesn’t seem that long ago that Secretary Clinton, with of course President Obama’s blessing was heaping praise on Mr. Mubarak for being such a fine leader.  But of course this isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened. I can remember when President Hussein of Iraq was our “strong ally” in our battle with Iran and there there was the Shah of Iran who was our ally against the despotic Iraqi dictator.  This foolishness seems to go on and on through our recent history.

I am  old enough to remember how Nicaragua and El Salvador were in our sights to. I can’t remember which one we liked and which one we didn’t but I know President Reagan and Secretary Kissinger had strong feeling about them. Then not too many years later they didn’t.

I am a first wave baby boomer so this was a little before my time but I do remember when Japan and Germany were our enemies who we recently defeated. Who our friends are at any current point in time seems to spin on a dime!

So my advice to Secretary Clinton is to get back to the gym and work on those neck exercises. You don’t know when another supersonic 180 will be required.

But what do I know…
