The thing about Cable and Satellite TV….

I am going to jump on my soapbox here for some ranting so be forewarned. But it is not that serious of stuff.

I live in a pretty rural area so I can’t get any channels with an antenna or even get cable TV out here in the hinterland. I am pretty much only have one choice and that is satellite TV. Sat TV works out pretty good most of the time. It even gives me an instant weather forecast by going out right before storms hit. But the thing I have the most grip about is how they package it.

Almost all of the packages I have seen are very much dominated by sports channels. I think I have about fifty of them in my package. The thing about it is that I have to pay for them but never watch a single one. I’m just not into anything sports related anymore. I have better things to do. From what I have learned the majority of the expenses for the satellite and cable companies is from paying for the sports channels. Most of the other specialty channels are minor expenses compared to the sporting ones.

So I guess I am subsidizing my sports hungry neighbors.  I sure do wish they would come up with an ala cart method of getting channels. It would save me some pretty serious bucks.  But I realize that will not happen on its own; it would probably take some sort of regulation  or revolt to make that happen. Count me as a revolutionary in that regard.

And the journey goes on….
