Journey through hallowed ground…

Our 25th wedding anniversary is coming up soon and it looks like we will be heading for Virginia and the journey through hallowed ground. I wanted to go to Disney World but my wife vetoed that idea. I guess I just have to work harder to convince her that Disney World is not just for kinds. Anyway getting back to the trip she didn’t veto. Virginia, for those you you who are U.S. history buffs know, is very rich with early American history. Most of the first six or more presidents were from Virginia. It was also the scene of many early American dramas up to and including the Civil War.  I am an American history buff but not when it comes to our civil war. I treat that period, as I do all the wars we are involved in,  as something to be totally mourned, not celebrated.

We will be using a couple of books to guide us through our journey. They are:

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground gives great detail about a 175 mile stretch of US highway 15 from Gettysburg to Monticello. There is much to see down this corridor. Most of the towns, all of the small, found along this route were settled before the American Revolution so history abounds.  We will also be getting off highway 15 to visit some of the other presidential homes in Virginia. I think this will be a very informative and peaceful trip for us. Being the planner that I am I will likely, to my wife’s disdain, have every day planned out in advance to the trip Smile. I don’t want to miss anything by not knowing it was there.
