Don’t Spend Your Life Studying God’s Word….

The title of this post may at first glance seem unChristian but I don’t believe it to be so.  To convince you of that I will repeat it here but with an ending.

Don’t spend you life studying God’s word but instead spend your life putting his words into action as he intended.

In other words God’s messages are not meant to be just contemplated but instead we are meant to do what He says. There are several Christian denominations who seem to base their Christianity on “letting the Lord’s grace flow over them”. They see that as their life’s purpose. That and getting others to do the same. I come down firmly in the camp of actions speak louder than words. You can’t call yourself a Christian and then ignore what Christ told you to do. Again and again in the Bible Jesus used the word “command” to give us a message. For instance, when Jesus commanded us to be our  brother’s keeper he meant what he said. To ignore these and thousands of similar words is the ignore Jesus himself.  How can you do that and still call yourself a Christian? These are the perplexing questions I am constantly asking myself.

I know there are well meaning people who call themselves Christians who think it is only necessary to make and altar call and then sit back and wait to “be taken home”.  They found a sentence or two in the Bible that seems to say that so they concentrate of those words and seemingly ignore the many places that contradict them. To them saying the words, or maybe declaring the faith, is all that is necessary. This is very frustrating to me. Why don’t they see the same messages in the Bible as I do or maybe a better question is why do they ignore them?
