Domain Invasion…

I don’t know why the words in the title above suddenly popped into my conscience, but I love it when that happens. It challenges me to think about a subject that I would not have otherwise. I see domain invasion as kinda like aliens from another galaxy telling us changes are on the horizon.

Let’s look at some possible examples of domain invasion.

Domain Invasion can refer to something popping into your “world” that makes you feel threatened, or at least very uncomfortable. It’s knocking at the door so loudly that it can no longer be ignored.

I have seen that “something” at least a couple of times here in my RetCom. During the time period when I was trying my autistic best to blend into the RetCom population where I live, I asked to join one of the many committees and clubs. As usual, before the first meeting, I thoroughly studied the topic and was well-prepared to provide input at the first meeting. When others saw my work, one was immediately were threatened that I was trying to take over, and she adamantly let me know that she didn’t like this domain invasion. I stayed for the entirety of that first meeting, but never attended another. This encounter was enough for me to realize that I wasn’t welcome by at least some here, and it therefore tainted my wanting to participate in most other activities. After a while, I came to realize that this, and likely most other committees, were more like social gatherings than a working committee I diligently prepared for.

Another example of domain invasion is when new ideas or thoughts from the outside world invade your small world. When that happens, meltdown often occurs. Many ultra-conservative folks are currently threatened by the thoughts and actions of AfterBoomer generations. “Non-binary people” is but one example that they simply strike fear into this group. The work ethic is another. The invasion threatened people simply can’t understand why generations beyond them don’t have the same views about things that they have. The invasion of ultra-conservatives is so frequent now, they are in a total panic about almost everything.

Of course, religious institutions are another prime example of domain invasion. For the last several hundred years, science has proven that their religious documents are simply inaccurate, and sometimes likely just a myth. Galileo was perhaps the first to feel the sting of the church for his proof that the earth was not the center of the universe. Many others would join him over the coming years. Science, and change in general, is now moving at such a rapid pace that those who fear change are in a panic. They feel that aliens are at their door.

Like all previous times when Domain Invasion has panicked a part of our population, eventually things will calm down. Maybe it is a matter of one generation dying off, and therefore ceding power to the next one.

I am an optimist, so I think most of the things that cause “domain invasion” will eventually come to be recognized as a good thing.
