You can make life very simple or very complicated. Some people try to be what others want them to be.  Others try to be different just to stand out. In both cases, they are changing themselves to impress others. Neither of these paths has a heart. Just be true to yourself.  It’s that simple.

The above quote is at the heart of so many people’s problems in life. I am certainly included in that list. Here I am in my 78th year on this earth, and I am finally beginning to learn the lesson to just be yourself.

I moved into a retirement community over two years ago, and made it my goal to fit into this new environment. I just wanted to be part of the community. To accomplish that, I thought I would invent a new me. Of course, that meant putting on many masks to hide who I really am. I should have learned the lesson to just be who I am, but I again fell into the trap of trying to re-invent myself. It took almost two years before I finally realized that would never make me happy.
