Mosaic of Life #43 – The Big Hair 80s

No, I’m not talking about 80-year-olds, but instead the 1980s.

The first half of the 1980s, I was knee-deep in my bachelor days. I had been working as an engineer for 10 years, and had made enough money to afford some luxuries in life. But, coming from humble roots, I for the most part, was still a spend thrift. All my furniture, except for the bed, was hand-me-downs from various relatives after I graduated from college. I still use an electric skillet that an aunt gave me. It is now over a hundred years old, but works great, so I simply can’t see replacing it with something else.

Changing topics, social stuff has always been very foreign to me. Most of my attempted dates were usually stressful events that I couldn’t wait until they were over. So, my dog and I were two ornery bachelors stuck in our ways. Then came that day in 1985, when my future wife asked me out on a date! I told you that story a couple of posts ago, so won’t repeat it here.

Getting to the title of this post, my wife wasn’t a fashion hound, but she often went with the trends. There were the mini-skirts of the 1970s, (she really looked good in those) and big hair of the 1980s. The picture at the top of this post was taken in Colonial Williamsburg in 1987. She definitely had big hair, but so did I, and I had a lot more of it than I do now.

I guess I will have to study up on the 1990s to see if we were again a slave to the trends.
