Understanding Diversity … Maybe Even Celebrating It

Since I now have a new header designed for it, I am officially bringing up a new topic entitled “About Diversity”. It, as the header shows, is about getting you to think about how our differences should be celebrated, not feared as so many seem to be right now.

I have come to believe that the lack of understanding and appreciating our diversity is at the core of so much of our troubles in the world today. Too many people get stuck in a rigid, often outdated tribal mindset, and when that mindset is challenged by what they see around them, they are stricken with fear and panic that their world is crumbling. They just can’t understand that letting others live their lives as they see fit might just be the answer to having peace and satisfaction in their own lives.

Believe it or not, it is not necessary for everyone to see the world the same way. In fact, if they did, the world would actually be a very boring and uninventive place, and probably still stuck in the dark ages. There are many things in the world that I personally don’t understand or particularly agree with, but that is ok. In the end all we need to understand that diversity in life is a good thing that should be celebrated, not feared. If you want to believe that the earth is flat, that’s ok, but don’t attack anyone who might say otherwise.

In the coming weeks and months I suspect that there will be many posts in this new “About Diversity” to help you stretch your mind and maybe eventually even your worldview.

Since they are a major part of my life, a couple of the primary focuses will be about Autism and deafness, but I will be expanding out to several other areas of what makes this a diverse world.
