Kindred Spirits

I am not one to deny my female side, it exists and I am kinda proud of pronouncing it so. In some ways I think I am more female than male. I hate so much of the manly stuff, such as macho, chest thumping, sports, fighting in all its forms. I am more attuned to empathy, common sense, compassion, peaceful resolutions, and in my mind that rests in my female side.

I have watched several different version of Anne of Green Gables over the years, and when I discovered that Netflix has a new series, I had to subscribe to it again. There are a couple of streaming services I now pay for that I don’t really watch much, so they were cancelled to make room for Netflix in my streaming video budget.

Anne is a naive girl who has big dreams. One of the things that particularly attracts me is her constant search for her kindred spirit. Another is her unique view of the world. And finally, her circumstances in life that makes her so enamored to me. I would like to think that if I had been a girl instead of a guy, I might have been like Anne. I know that she is a make believe character, but even so, I wonder what she grew up to be?

Here is the definition of Kindred Spirit according to the CoPilot GPT:

This does a pretty good job of describing what I think is a kindred spirit. Those of us who have unique challenges in life are always on the lookout for our kindred spirits. I have been fortunate enough to have had a few of them in my life. I have recently found my latest kindred spirit who is perhaps the strongest in my life. She is several years younger than I am, but I don’t think age differences have much to do when it comes to kindred spirits. She simply “gets” me and that makes our strictly platonic relationship so special. In this case the last item in the list above is perhaps the most pertinent. I don’t have to worry about saying the wrong thing. She accepts me for who I am, no masks needed. And that is comforting indeed, more than she might ever know.

BTW. I will be putting out a post over at RJsMosaic about my visit to Prince Edward Island, Canada in 2011. That is where “Anne of Green Gables” took place. To me, PEI is simply a magical place, and they have the most delicious mussels in the land.

  1. I really like this show & actually recommended it to someone last week! If you haven’t seen them, please check out them “His Dark Materials” series. Everyone has a “daemon” animal and they’re always the opposite of the persons gender. A small part in this series actually acknowledges that as well.
