I love the challenge of figuring out what different acronyms stand for. Some are obvious, some, not so much. I have some that have guided me through life. I thought I would share a few of those with you. I don’t know if I invented them or just stolen them from others. 😎
LOMO
Life On My Own
I’m not sure when I first latched on to this one. Perhaps it was after college and I finally had a bedroom that I didn’t have to share with someone else. After a couple of years in that environment, I decided that I would just live my life on my own terms. That period lasted for 15 years.
The second LOMO period started after my wife died 3 years ago. I was definitely on my own after 36 years of marriage. I once again discovered that I can do whatever I want when I want to do it.
Yeah, LOMO is sometimes lonely, but I think I am again beginning to realize that, especially for me, there are more advantages than disadvantages to this re-discovered lifestyle.

Don’t Give A Shit
Sometimes, things that demand our attention just aren’t worth the time. One of those things is politics, especially since 2016. I just don’t care for it any longer. My saying in this arena is
Those who can, do. Those who can’t go into politics.
There just doesn’t seem to be anyone anymore who inspires me. Obama did, but sadly didn’t accomplish much of his rhetoric.

And Disregard The Rest
This one finally fermented in my senior years. I left the corporate world 24 years ago, and it immediately hit me, “Now What?” I have been trying to answer that question ever since then. I just couldn’t get it in my mind that I didn’t have to justify my existence. After struggling with it for all those years, this acronym came front and center. The full thought it is:
Just do what you want to do and … And Disregard The Rest
STIM
STay In the Moment
As I grow older now, I occasionally drift off in one thought or another at unpredictable times. That’s ok, except when I am behind the wheel of my car. I now make it a practice to remember this acronym whenever I drive. It keeps me and others safe.
