I was careful to precisely state the title of this mosaic. The “thing” I miss the most in my life is the 1800 sq ft workshop that I left behind when I moved into my RetCom in 2021. I built it in the year 2000 from a pole barn filled with manure, chicken coops, and such. I successfully ran a woodworking business in it for six years before officially retiring from a for-profit business.
I spent several months during this period building a kitchen, offices, cabinets, and bookcases for a startup church, that later kicked me out because I didn’t believe the “right things”. No matter that I had donated literally thousands of buck and hours to make them a home. But, that is another story that I don’t care to explain here.
The fourteen years that it was just “My Shop” were some of the most pleasant times in my life. A big part of that was spending almost five years changing my workshop delivery truck into a custom micro-RV that I then used on innumerable trips “in search of America”, including a 10,000-mile trip in 2022.

As I mentioned in previous posts I have built a replacement workshop in my RetCom apartment. This time, instead of 1800 sq ft, it is a 36 sq ft converted walk-in closet. It is nice but, of course, doesn’t compare to my dream shop of old. But it will have to do.
