Abstract Art Is Kinda Like…

Abstract art is kinda like a picture puzzle that has yet to be assembled.

The pieces are all there, and it is up to me to determine what the puzzle looks like. Being that I am getting more forgetful in my old age, I don’t know if I have told you that I have become a picture puzzle fanatic. Yeah, this is another side story. 🥴

I inherited this trait from my late wife. She regularly worked puzzles throughout our 36-year marriage and frequently tried to convince me that I should try “puzzling.” Finally, about 10 years ago, I agreed to try it. I now have over 70 puzzles in my collection and have worked all of them at least twice. It does, like nothing else, calm my mind.

But this is not the point of this post.

Getting back to the original purpose of this post, as you might know, I am presently knee deep in trying to develop my version of abstract art, which is included in the My Artsy Side menu above. As I told you in a recent post, I have settled on two areas: Doodles & Abstracts. Last week, I was totally focused on this new challenge. I spent literally hours practicing my latest version of art. I won’t show you my first few attempts as they were abject failures. I just couldn’t seem to wrap my mind around working in an abstract mode.

Then it came to me that my version of abstract art is actually picture puzzling in reverse. I start out with a recognizable image and then proceed to break it apart into a myriad of different parts. After finally accepting this new epiphany, my struggle was considerably less.

My current version of Abstract involves taking a photo from my portfolio and morphing it into its most basic parts. I still need more practice, but I will soon give you some examples of what I have accomplished. I know I am in the “baby step” mode, but every success starts there.

OK, let’s finish out this post where it all started. Here is, at least in my Abstract Art world, what the box of pieces started out as. Can you see the resemblance? 😉
