“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
–Rumi (1207-1273)
Rumi was a 13th century poet from Afghanistan who had some wise things to say.
I have spent much of my 78-year life trying to change the world, at least my little part of it. I hope, in some minute way, I accomplished that feat once in a while. But, as Rumi said, I am wise now, so I am changing myself. In some ways, changing myself is harder to do. But it is much more personally satisfying than the former.
I love what I have become as a result of finally realizing the truth in these ancient words.
