Or at least many of today’s versions of them.
To me they are simply annoying distractions. I know they are becoming the number one thing in the social media world. This is one of those things that advancing technology has made possible but do we have to do everything just because it becomes possible?
I am a techie and have been since the two Steves gave us the Macintosh computer in 1984. The creativity that Mac with the 8″ screen allowed me to do dramatically changed my corporate work life. I went from a so-so electrical engineer to a very successful software tools developer (now called apps).
Now mind you, I am not an 80-year-old guy complaining about all this “new” fangled stuff. So why aren’t I on the bandwagon for all the videos that seem to be everywhere today? Here are a few reasons:
They are annoying – When I am browsing my daily internet connections every morning they seem to be always on the edges of my focus flashing through a 5-second loop.
They serve no value other than maybe to let people who don’t know how to read or write have their say. Will there come a day when videos replace the written word? I certianly hope not!
I’m not one to jump on a bandwagon simple because it is heading down the road. This has everything to do with my mantra in life.
Think For Yourself, Question Everything, Never Stop Learning.

I appreciate your perspective. There’s something irreplaceable about slowing down to read thoughtful words instead of chasing constant motion. It’s refreshing to hear someone defend reflection over noise.
