Memories are something that I have an abundance of. As I have said many times here on RJsCorner, my brain constantly runs 100 mph with hundreds of different thoughts. Sadly most of those that have value, might I even say brilliant, thoughts are lost before they are written down. That’s one of the downsides of being old I guess.
I was going to title this post “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda” but then a single line from a 50+year-old song popped on top of my head that spurred the title above. I couldn’t remember what the rest of the song was but thank heavens AI provided it within a few keystrokes. Because of copyright stuff I can’t give you the lyrics but if you google the title above it will appear. It was sung by Barbra Streisand in 1973 and entitled “The Way We Were“. I kinda had a thing for her back then.
Getting back to “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda” rehashing past actions is just not productive. We will always regret some of the things we have done, and especially those we didn’t do.
Too many of us who are in the last stages of life live with constant regrets of the past. It’s much better to look to future possibilities, even in our last days. Grandma Moses was in her 60s before she put an art brush in her hand. It’s never too late to cancel out “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda”. Your life will be fuller, and indeed much happier, without them.
Instead of regretting the past look for things that presently light the corners of your mind with pleasant thoughts. What’s too painful to remember we should simply forget.
