I have been thinking about this for a while now, so maybe it is time to get it off my brain and into a Having My Say post. Like everyone else I sometimes think the world is going to hell in a hand basket. But I have lived long enough to know that the world is in constant motion, and generally in a positive direction. But, before I get into that, let’s have a history lesson.
When the 1st Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s. There was a feverish panic that so many people were leaving the farms that they would not have enough people to produce the food needed for the population. At that time about 90% of the workforce was on farms. As of today that number is now around 1%, and we are being well-fed.
The 2nd Industrial Revolution started around 1850. That is when electricity, mass production and steel mills created another major shift in our workforce make up. Of course the Robber Barons were they to make vast fortunes while most of the rest got poorer. Teddy Roosevelt (a Republican) came along to help balance the money pool, but he could only do so much. Of course a big part of this revolution was Henry Ford’s assembly line.
We are now beginning the 3rd Industrial Revolution where electronics, AI, computers and robotics will once again redefine the workplace. The assembly line that Ford invented ushered the way for robots to eventually take over.
I kinda think this third time around will make the previous two seem like child’s play. Yes, due to AI there will be serious disruptions in areas once thought immune, but after the dust finally settles we will live better, longer, and might I say happier than ever before. Who or how that will happen is yet to be determined.
Hopefully we will have enough government left in place for there to be rules for certain circumstances that have yet to be invented.
