The U.S. spends as much on it military establishment as the rest of the free world combined. We are constantly preparing for war with little or no efforts to find peaceful solutions. I love America but hate that fact. At last count, we have permanent military presence in 54 countries around the world. I wonder what would happen, even in sane times, if another country insisted that they have a military base in the U.S.A. Given today’s political environment it would likely mean yet another war.

What would it take to spend meaningful resources promoting peace and treating war as an abject failure instead of something we celebrate years after the fact. We have been the policemen of the world for so long, I’m not sure if that is even possible now. Some say the roots of this war stance is from our early history in conquering the original inhabitants of the land we now call home. Others say it is the macho attitude of settling the “West”

I gotta think about that more…
