With All Your Old Nonsense…

DD86 – Eternal Flame of Daily Life

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with all your old nonsense.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson –

Here is what Wikipedia says about Emerson:

Ralph Waldo Emerson was a prominent American writer, poet, philosopher, and lecturer who led the Transcendentalist movement in the mid-19th century. His essays and lectures explored themes of freedom, individuality, and the inner potential of humans, which he called “the infinitude of the private man”. Emerson’s philosophy emphasized self-reliance, self-sufficiency, and trusting one’s own instincts over societal expectations.

I align with most of this description. I think the ” inner potential of humans” is pretty much aligned with the Humanist movements of today. Since I have now shed my “religious” garments, I can finally proclaim myself a humanist.

I am going to brush up on the Transcendentalist movement and write a post on it soon.
