A Picture is…..

If a picture is worth a thousand words this one is certainly it.  Our current congress is so afraid of the NRA that they panic when ordinary citizens bring up the topic of gun control.  Yes, the NRA is a very powerful lobby but until more congressmen stand up to them they will continue to have a strangle hold on civilized debate about weapons of mass destruction….

  1. Obesity kills far more people then guns, are they going to ban food next :) I am a law abiding citizen as are my friends yet everytime some thug commits a criminal act they want to take away my guns, makes no sense to me.

  2. To Rmactsc,
Gun control is not the same thing as “taking away” anyone’s guns. I am a law abiding citizen as well with family members who hunt all over the world and collect guns yet they are pro-gun control because they know that while a cheeseburger cannot accidentally kill a child, a gun in the hands of anyone can cause an unintended death — the gun laws in this country are ridiculous and I see no problem with improving them so that only people who are trained and have a licence can acquire them.

  3. Really? And it “does” make sense to you to have all citizens (regardless of IQ) armed and ready to shoot their neighbors, or their dogs, or whoever else ticks them off? How many people have saved themselves from muggers or thieves by shooting them? None that I know of. And do you really need to shoot someone who steals your TV anyway? As for hunting guns…I’m not a fan but I try to be tolerant of this “sport”. But, having everyone armed with handguns, etc…for protection is crazy. I’m not the food police but I know that the efforts…albeit sometimes goofy…to control the food system are meant to save the health and lives of the population. The same can not be said for the gun lovers. It’s all about their right to have and carry guns…to heck with the rest of us who have to live next to them and wander the streets with them.

  4. Lively discussions here. But of course as the cartoon indicates nothing will happen in DC because of a very strong lobby there. Some day sanity will finally come to this issue.
BTW… I am also a law abiding citizen. I even obey our traffic laws/speed limits. But from my interstate travels of the last week I seem to be just about the only one.. Gun control is yet another thing we can learn from other countries but we are just too arrogant to even listen….

  5. Okay, in fairness I checked out rmactsc’s website. Frankly, it scared the bejeebers out of me. It doesn’t change my mind at all, only reinforces the idea that obssessive gun lovers are afraid of their own shadow and see terrible danger at every turn. I have a brother in law who would love this site. He runs a gun shop and has tons of weapons & ammo. Whenever we see him he quotes all these same statistics and dangers as justification for owning these toys. He hasn’t shot anyone yet…but we hold our breath.
Sorry, no guns for me and I wish they weren’t anywhere around me.

    1. I appreciate you checking out the site but we shall have to agree to disagree :) Hopefully you will never be attacked but I would hate to see you in a situation where a thug places your life in danger and you cannot defend yourself.

  6. Thanks for the reference to your site rmactsc. But I agree with Jane, you seem to be afraid of so much as most survivalists also seem to be now days. I don’t care to live my life in that mode. That would be a dark existence to me.

I look at other countries where gun ownership is very low and I also see that crimes, especially with guns, is also very low. If you are so afraid of the impending doom here maybe you should check out some of the Scandinavian countries as a living option. You might feel safer there. Most have very little crime and very few murders. If you don’t care to go that far try Canada. But I must warn you that you would be required to leave your stockpile of weapons here as they are not welcomed there.

Good luck on feeling safe but I must truthfully tell you that I don’t think guns are the answer to your worries but instead part of your problem… Jane and I will just go blissfully along in our lives without guns to protect us. It has worked well for me so far in my 65 years.

    1. Trust me, I fear nothing. I’m 6’5” tall and 245 lbs and did 2 tours in the military in my younger years in the Middle East. I love my guns, love target shooting and love the freedom I have to own them in this country. 2nd amendment rocks :)
