One of the first “big boy” books I read at the age of 12 was a biography of Albert Einstein. That book has lived with me ever since. In my focus on Autism and Asperger’s, I have seen it frequently speculated that Einstein was an Aspie. I humbly think that I share many of his characteristics. Extreme focus is one of them.
During my study on almost any topic, hours can simply disappear without me even noticing it. Now that I am alone in my RetCom apartment, I sometimes work throughout the night without even noticing it. There is no one here to tap me on the shoulder to tell me to come to bed anymore.
I think this characteristic is what Einstein was talking about in the quote above. Although my IQ is in the top 1%, I really think that what makes me “smart” are the hours I can spend on a topic taking up my total focus. When you spend that much time on a subject, some of it is bound to sink in. 😎
One of the problems with the ever present knowledge on the Internet is that you only get a small snippet of info at a time. Going deep takes hours of study that most just don’t seem to have the patience for.
Breakthroughs in any area are just not possible by just browsing the web. You just have to stay with the problems/challenges longer, much longer, to make change happen.
