The Best President Money Can Buy…

I did something that I haven’t done for several years and that is I contributed a significant amount of money to a presidential campaign. One reason is that, given my genes, I likely won’t be around for the next one. The other is if the narcissist con-man is elected, it’s likely that our democracy will fail to exist shortly thereafter. He has openly admitted that is his primary goal for 2025.

Finally, getting to the title of this post. I gave money to one of the candidates. I don’t think I have to tell you which one. Since that time, I have been invaded with dozens of daily texts, emails, telephone calls and literature asking if I can up my contributions to $500 to make sure they are elected. But even beyond that, they want me to repeat the amount every week until election day.

It used to be that our vote was the most important thing holding together a democracy. Now it is money and LOTS of it. Part of that is due to the proud ignorance of much of the electorate. They seem to only believe what they are told in bombardments of 30-second commercials. It doesn’t matter if those 30 second periods are the truth or total lies.

I have quoted Thomas Jefferson who, for those who don’t know him he wrote our Declaration of Independence and was our third president.

A Democracy depends on an informed electorate

In my mind, an informed electorate has been disintegrating for quite some time now, and just might hit critical mass this time around.

So, do I continue throwing money into a flawed process? That is the question I face as the time draws nearer and nearer.
