Of course, “Walden” refers to Henry David Thoreau’s book about spending two years in a crude log cabin by himself near Waldon Pond in Concord, Massachusetts. Many scholars believe this is one of the best-known non-fiction books written by an American. It was published in 1854. He did it as an experiment to live a simple life, escaping the complexities of society, and to deeply contemplate and reflect on life.
How does this relate to this post?
First, as usual, a little story. For the last few months I have spent just about every weekend locked in my RetCom apartment focusing on whatever I wanted. It is one of the ways I practice “Simplicity”. Practically nothing distracts me from the weekend project at hand. Like Thoreau, I find this time soothing and peaceful, where life outside of my project disappears. Maybe, I should explain that that is a soothing thing for me.
With all this in mind, I have decided to use the weekends going forward focused on “Arsty”. That is among other things, to work on my 2025 “Clothesline Art” project which is about producing to varying degrees, abstracts representing what my mind’s eye sees. I now have all the tools and apps necessary to do the job, so this is where the rubber hits the road.
I know that a weekend at a time is not the same as two years that Thoreau spent, but personally, I don’t think I could survive 2 years in this mode. It would likely be too stressful to me and BORING.😁
BTW – I am now reading another book by Thoreau that will be the basis for a near future post. It just may point the way to 2025. At least I optimistically hope so.
