And Disregard The Rest… But Not Publically

I don’t remember when I came across the term “Cafeteria Catholic”. For those who haven’t figured it out yet, it means that many Catholics pick and choose from all that is presented to them, instead of just taking everything they are told as true.

But I believe the concept has grown substantially since this phrase was invented. For the 21st century, it should probably be rebranded as “Cafeteria Christians” and even beyond that to all the religions.

But the secret to being a “Cafeteria (you add the group)” is the last part of the title above. You can pick and choose what to disregard, but don’t tell your church “friends”and especially the paid leader you have done that as you would likely get kicked out. Since to most religious establishments are presently more like country clubs than anything else, getting kicked out is often a dramatic event, especially for people who are social.

I can speak from experience that if that happens to you, you may quickly learn that your “friends” are no longer your friends.
