Embracing Change… Again??

One of the ten pillars that drive my life is to embrace change and I certainly do my share of it here at RJsCorner and my life in general. The coming changes include looking both forward and backwards.

I know one thing for sure, and that is, I have had my fill of things political. It does nothing but bring dread into my life now. I have better things to do than to worry about all those who fear just about everrything and seem to be everywhere now! So, with the stroke of the pen I say “Politics Be Gone”. Well, maybe not entirely. When the current Oval Office occupant does something INCREDIBLY STUPID, I might give it a word or two in my weekly snippets.

During the winter months I have a lot of time on my hands. My lack of physical balance due to my deafness makes it dangerous to walk where there might be ice. So much of my time is on a home detention from mid-November to mid-March. 🙂 That leaves me lots of time to think and read and that automatically generates ideas for daily posts here on RJsCorner. I sometimes have to remind myself that I shouldn’t post more than once a day. I don’t want to become a pest to all my followers.

And then when Spring finally happens, sometimes quickly, but often tragically slow, it is time to go into my “Summer mode”. The first thing on the agenda is to try to shed the extra 8 lbs I gained from the lack of significant exercise during the winter months. That is getting harder and harder to do as the years go by.

The “Summer mode” also means lots of work taking care of the of the 2+ acre homestead and the one-hundred year old farmhouse that sits on it. It also means I pull the uRV (micro RV) out of the barn and get it ready to hit the road again. There is always something I have dreamed up during the winter months that needs improvement in my little home-away-from-home. This year it is designing and fabricating a new lower storage unit. I gotta show you some pictures of that.

Lot’s of things to do in the “Summer Mode”

Now let’s spend some time looking backwards at least as far as this blog goes. I have done a lot of different things in this ten year stretch of its existence. Maybe I should bring back some of those things to fill the vacuum from avoiding the ugliness of politics? Maybe you can help me with those decisions.

  1. When I decided to move my photography work to another venue, I really didn’t intend to make it disappear entirely from RJsCorner. Maybe I should bring some of my favorites back here?
  2. The blog that eventually morphed into RJsCorner was entitled InSearchOfAmerica and a serious part of that were my “On The Road” reports while traveling across America. I really enjoyed talking about the historical part of my trips. Maybe I should bring some of that back?
  3. I have been dabbling in poetry. No, you didn’t read that wrong! As a young teenager, I thought I was pretty good at that, but since none of my works from that era survived I can’t verify that with a more mature eye now. But I have been learning and experimenting with it lately. Maybe I should publicly try my hand at that?
  4. This winter I have accumulated painting apps that use a picture I have taken to make them into artworks of several different styles. I think I would like to try my hand at that?

As you can see, I have ideas for lots of changes here on RJsCorner. I know I will be limiting my posts to two to three times a week, but I haven’t really decided which new items I want to tackle. What would you like to see from this seventy-three year old deaf guy in the coming months?

I would certainly welcome your input.

I Need More Balance…

Hdr Nov10I need more balance in my life and especially in my blogging. Part of my base character that is associated with my Asperger’s traits is I tend to become obsessively focused on something and everything else just falls by the wayside.  The day-to-day insanity coming from the Oval Office along with the now weekly mass killings is putting me over the edge.  I have to force myself to greatly diminish my attention to these subjects.

To do that I am now going to try to broaden the scope of coverage here at RJsCorner. As you can see from the header above I plan on giving my attention to seven different areas, one day at a time. Another change is that I am bringing back my photo activity back to RJsCorner.  After 3+ months of attempting to move it off to a dedicated site, it is clear that there just isn’t enough interest for it to stand alone.

Here are the topics for each day of the week:

Monday – Government/Politics

Monday is reserved for “Inside The Beltway” issues. You likely know where I come from on these issues.

Tuesday – This Land Is Your Land

This topic will primarily encompass a photo journal of my travels across America.

Wednesday – Having My Say

This one is a potpourri of topics that just don’t fit anywhere else but I have something to say about it.  Some of that will include stories from my life, some about my lessons learned, and some just about things I have been thinking about or just plain bug me.

Thursday – American Heroes

The principal person in this category is Will Rogers. I already have an abundance of posts of Will’s quotes in the archives. Jefferson and other founding fathers will also be prominent here. Many current day people who inspire me in one area or another will also share this space.

Friday – Why?? (Question Everything)

I have lived with the “why” word all my life. Many seem to outgrow it after childhood but not me.  Questioning Everything is at my core! I am just not one to accept “that is the way it is..” and this category will illustrate that. A big part of Friday posts will be busting long-established myths.

Saturday – Artsy/Creative/Surreal

This category is where my creativity and craziness is unleashed on you. 🙂

Sunday – God/Religion/Spiritual

After my rather intense spiritual studies of about a decade ago, I have come to have I have come to develop several different views on this broad subject matter.

I don’t necessarily plan on posting every day here but I will stick this agenda schedule for when I do post. I hope you like the new directions for RJsCorner. If you have any ideas for new topics and such let me know. I welcome any input you might want to provide and look forward to delving into my more complete view of the world with you.

It’s Time For A New Chapter @ RJsCorner…

canstockphoto11405597.jpgI have decided it’s time for a new chapter here at RJsCorner.  It’s time to shake things up.

  • I am putting out too much gloom and doom lately. Who wants more of that in their lives?
  • I want to make my posts a regular part of your daily life. To do that they need to be more concise so you can read them in under two minutes (one minute if you are a fast reader 🙂 ).
  • My decision to move InSearchOfAmerica photos and most corresponding stories to Flickr albums also affected this change.

At an even more basic level, I need to get back to my roots. Giving a “Will Rogers” view of the world is what started RJsCorner. I have drifted away from that in the intervening years.  Will had a lighthearted way of talking about his times during the Great Depression. He gave his readers hope and humor instead of dread and darkness that was so common during that period. Given the current times seem very similar to his, I plan to do more “hope and humor” here going forward and a lot less “inside-the-beltway” stuff, especially for the next two years, nine months, three weeks, and five days. Now don’t get me wrong, except for the beltway stuff, I will be covering pretty much the same issues, it is more the tenor of the post than the content that will be changing.

With all this in mind, the format of RJs Corner will be changing. I will be off-the-air for a few days until it is done.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for what you would like to see more or less of on RJsCorner, PLEASE to chime in.  Your input is very important to me.

To give you a little preview, my daily posts which will be called “The Daily Cackle” will be limited to about 250 words, and will be more my words and fewer quotes from others.

I will also do a once-a-week in-depth post which will be the length necessary to get the story across. In addition, I plan to add more personal stories about my life in hopes that you will share some of yours. I want RJsCorner to be more than a virtual corner, I want to make it a community.
