Skeptical

2018-01-27_10-49-15.pngSkeptical is one of my favorite words, I have been using it more and more in the last year or so. Just do a search for that word here on RJsCorner, and you will probably find a couple dozen posts using it.  I think most of you know the meaning of the word but just to be sure I will present it here. I guess my “Question Everything” stand is the source of my fascination for this word.

I am skeptical about most things, but one thing I am perpetually skeptical about is what comes out of the mouth of the current Oval Office occupant. My SOP (standard operating procedure) for when I see him saying anything is now to seriously consider the opposite to be the reality. I don’t think I am alone in this regard. If you want validation of my observations, just gather his tweets on anything, and you will see how truth is a very moving and often unknown object to him.

Skepticism is a good thing to have.  Sadly, too many just latch on to what sounds good to them and disregard everything else.

I’m Skeptical…

One of my favorite TV shows is about a family called the Rolloffs. The mother and father are dwarfs but only one of their four children is also a dwarf. Molly who is the only daughter used the word “skeptical” quite often even as a little girl. She was skeptical about almost everything. I didn’t use that word much growing up but I too was skeptical about many things I encountered. The show has been going on for about 13 years now so I have watched Molly grow from a young girl to a college graduate soon to be married.

It is good to see young people being skeptical of things around them, especially in today’s “post-truth” era. It leads me to believe that even if this post-truth era exists, it will be short-lived.  Anyone who has been to RJsCorner knows that skepticism is a primary focus for this site. Question everything, think for yourself. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the news article about a guy who drove six-hundred miles to Washington DC in order to shut down Hillery’s child abduction ring as reported in a fake news on-line article. I wonder how many other like him fall totally for purely fabricated information? Given that so much nonsense rhetoric now comes out of the White House, it is totally necessary to be skeptical about what you read and hear, especially there.

Getting slightly off the topic, it seemed like everyone going to college in the Reagan years of the 1980s was primarily focused on making money via an MBA (master’s in business administration). I kinda blame much of what has happened in our country on that attitude. That was the period when any sense of loyalty to anything but money flew out the window. Molly gives me hope for the coming years but she is not the only one. During my recent experiences with brain trauma, I ran across several others who put money on a back burner to wanting to help folks like me.

It’s good to be skeptical in today’s world. I’m glad that at least some are very equipped to turn our country back to the roots of my generation where truth actually meant something.
