A Female President??

The Source:  Bachmann on 2012: I’ll ‘stand up to Obamacare’ – Politics – Decision 2012 – msnbc.com.

As the above article states apparently joining the already overcrowded Republican presidential contest is yet another Tea Party candidate Michele Bachmann. She has honed her message to everything that she doesn’t like and on top of that list is Obamacare! but in this article she  proclaims she  is a “rock-ribbed constitutional conservative anti-socialist.

Call me a sexist if you want but I have always thought of women as the fairer sex. Being historically the primary care givers they haven’t seemed to suffer from the machismo attitudes that testosterone fueled men are prone to. I have long dreamed of having a woman for president one day. I always thought that when that day came we would have a very compassionate person in the White House who would fully empathize with those on the margins of our society. Given the crop of woman candidates, at least in the Republican party presidential field today, I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. These women, obviously including Mrs. Bachmann, seem to have thoroughly starved out their innate compassion and replaced it with something else; something much less noble!

Here is the definition of compassion:

a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

Compassion is to me one of the most noble emotion while greed is the least.  Let’s look at some of Mrs. Bachmann’s words from the above article:

Obama has to go and has to be replaced, but not just by anyone We need someone who is committed to taking that thing out (the health care law), because it is the crown jewel of socialism, and if it’s allowed to stand we will never get our country back.

I have tried to find some compassionate words from candidate Bachmann but have been unable to find anything remotely resembling that condition. As mentioned above Mrs. Bachmann proudly announces that she is a anti-socialist and a constitutional conservative Tea Party candidate. I haven’t studied to any great extent just what Mrs. Bachmann’s views are on these topics. Maybe I should give her the benefit of the doubt but from the snippets I have seen across the internet she is very much like a similar woman who ran for congress in my district in 2010. That candidate’s constitutional expertise was limited to her self-study of that document.  She claimed that the constitution limited federal government to basically one thing and that was to maintain our country’s war machinery. Almost everything else was “unconstitutional” according to her. That unconstitutional list among other things included:

  • Social Security
  • Medicare
  • Education
  • Food and Drug Safety

This local 2010 Republican Tea Party candidate proudly announced that if elected she would do her best to shrink the federal government and eliminate their involvement in the above activities.  Even within a very conservative district this candidate could not gain the majority of the vote within her party. I just can’t understand the appeal of the Tea Party. They seem to be against almost everything except allowing the top 10% of the population who control over half the wealth to maintain a stranglehold over the other 90%.  I can’t understand how this kind of platform can appeal to anywhere near the majority needed to obtain any office? To me they seem more like the Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter version of tea party.

So here we are heaping one anti-establishment Republican candidate on top of another during the current election cycle. Some day I assume they will have to get around to proclaiming just what they are for. I will be listening for those words.

But what do I know.

  1. It’s not surprising that The Donald had jumped into the El Supremo race (which he felt he soundly deserved). The trend seems to be statements by people who feel they have all the answers. I don’t hear Re’cans calling for dialogue or conversations about solutions; only rants full of blame and fear.

The term “socialism” is being used in a similar way as “communism” once was, with very little knowledge and understanding of what the terms really mean. They are being used as a focus of fear and loathing, fueled by an astonishing ignorance of history and perspective.

Socialism? How about lending libraries? How about fire companies? Police? Schools? The list goes on, but too many don’t want to hear thoughtful answers – they just want to bluster like Rush and company.

Arghhhh!!!! (Thanks for letting me rant….. :) ).
