There are a few people on earth who can think long term and then actually make it happen. Elon Musk is one of those people. The quote to the right is one of the primary reasons for SpaceX. I don’t really know how he came about this fundamental belief, but I know how I did and that is what this post is about. 😎
I am a life-long student of history, I have been so since I was introduced to it by farmer/teacher in a very rural town high school in Indiana in the 1960s. It just seemed natural to me, even at that age, that we need to understand how we got to where we are to understand what our future possibilities are. Most of my studies have concentrated on US history but I have sometimes moved outside that window. The most basic thing that my history studies have taught me is that our world has been in an almost constant state of war for thousands of years. Of course, it is only in the post-WWII period that we must realize that the next world war could just bring the annihilation of our species.
I think it is ironic that there are so many sci-fi movies out there about aliens coming to destroy the earth when there is probably a 99% chance that we will do that ourselves. It just takes one unstable despot to start a global apocalypse that could easily result in the human species annihilation.
If we don’t cause an immediate end, will we destroy earth in baby steps through ignoring climate change? #CO3 (current Oval Office occupant) is intent on pulling the US out of any possible solution to reaching an environment tipping point that assures our destruction. It is kinda pitiful that we Baby Boomers, or at least the MAGA portion of us, seem intent on destroying the world rather than leaving it to our kids and grandkids.
Elon Musk is intent on setting human being on another planet before it is too late and from what I have learned about him, he just may accomplish that.
