I am a writer. I don’t know why I am obsessed with that craft, but I have to put my thoughts into words and get them out there. It’s not that I am seeking fame or fortune. I think I do it because my brain will explode if I don’t. 🤪 But seriously, it is more than that.
I write to codify my thoughts and maybe in some small way to get others to think for themselves and question everything. I write because I see so much injustice and illogical things happening in the world. I write to see if there is anyone else out there that maybe sees the same thing? As the old saying goes, “misery loves company”. I just want to find out if anyone else is so disappointed in so many things of life.
Things should be better than they are.
What is keeping us from accomplishing that?
Getting back to the idea of being a writer. If you write for recognition you will find that you will spend many more hours trying to get your words out there than actually crafting your words. As a writer, no one owes you a readership, let along a living. Like most artists very few make enough from their crafts to pay their bills. Even many of the recognized authors have to supplement their income from other means. If you are thinking about a profession in writing as your path to fame or wealth, give up that idea unless you are willing to put in many painful hours to make it happen.
To be a successful writer, you have to be a good salesperson to sell it. I don’t expect or would even take any money for my writing. I see so many of the blogs I presently visit that now have blaring ads dispersed between their paragraphs. To me, that almost bastardizes what they say. How can I take their words seriously when their post now seems more about annoyingly selling this or that of what I don’t want or need? I am fortunate that I live a good but simple life with the resources I have. In fact, I actually spend around $500/year to be able to put my words and images out there.
I am fortunate to have a moderate viewership on at least one of the four blogs. Many come and go, but some of you have stuck around for a good number of years. I want to let you know that I appreciate the time you spend on my corner. I’m not looking for fame, but it is nice to know that people are interested in seeing what I say. That is enough of a reward for the hours I spend on my craft. I will never get monetarily rich from it, but I value your friendship much more than that.
Thanks for sticking around RJsCorner
