We Might Just Sanitize Ourselves Out Of Existence.

If the marketers don’t do it beforehand, we might just sanitize ourselves out of existence. I know this is going to take some explainin to do, so I will get to it.

It seems that more and more of kids in the AfterBoomer generations are allergic to one thing or another now that we simply weren’t, at least in the volume it is now. For some it is peanuts, for others it’s milk or one of many other things.

Closing in on the underlying purpose of this post, our world just seems to be controlled by people telling us what we should like, how we should dress, what phones we buy. You name it, there is someone to tell us how to live our life. Sadly, we almost seem to have lost the ability to think for ourselves anymore.

I don’t know when it happened, but the marketers have just about convinced us all that carpeting is a bad thing. It contains germs, dirt and other bad stuff.

  • Never mind that it is so nice to have a cozy comfort for our toes on cold winter days.
  • Never mind that when a kid falls on carpet, there is a cushion to prevent serious injury. A few years ago I had SDH (subdural hematoma – i.e. brain surgery when I fell on grass) so I have a little bit of say here.
  • Never mind that things are a lot quieter when floors have a non-reflective sound covering. Without carpets, many homes are now like echo chambers now. (hello, hello, hello)

They try to convince you that you simply can’t have our children exposed to all that bad stuff found lingering in carpets! (or can we?)

In reality, I guess this “out with the old, and in with the new” thing is American capitalism personified. If you are not spending more and more every year on things you don’t really need, or likely even want, then our economy would certainly collapse.

Now to link all this stuff together (but not in a too serious way 🥸), I kinda think that getting all the carpeting out of our homes is causing us to be less tolerant to many illnesses and disease. When I was a baby so many years ago, I scooted around on shag carpet. For all you youngsters out there, I have included a picture of shag to the right. Yeah, it might have exposed me to some germs at a small level, but maybe that exposure helped build my tolerance to the full-blown germs later in life.

I saw a study recently that if children are given small amounts of peanut butter when they are young, they develop an immunity to peanuts. Yes, carpeting might contain germs and dirt, but removing it just moves those critters into dust bunnies that float around with the drafts.

Now, before you jump in here, I realize that some of this is serious stuff. But, there just might also be some truthfulness in my hypotheses.

    1. Yeah, playing in the mud is another option. I won’t give up my carpet, no matter how many marketers tell me that I have to do that.

By the way, I really enjoy your adventures across Australia. I have travelled many miles across America in my 30-year-old pickup with a custom-made camper shell on the back.
