What Others Think About You

Dear AfterBoomers:

Let’s start out today’s lesson in life about all the time you spend on social media in order to show others just how happy you are and how much fun you are having.

It seems to me that many of you are far too concerned about how others see you. Just look at all the social media outlets, and you will see that a typical AfterBoomer spends about three hours every day showing your one-thousand or so “friends” just how much fun you are having in life.

Without some personal help from RJsCorner, it would have taken years before you discover that people are too busy thinking about themselves to think much about you. The graphic here shows you the normal progression into this insight. Think of all the time you will save now that you realize how much of it you are wasting on social media. Go out and use that time doing something more productive, something more enjoyable.

Before you start piling on or chanting “OK Boomer”, I know I am not an authority regarding social situations. According to Ann Landers words above, I guess I was born 60 years-old as I have never been the type of person who was even the least bit concerned about what others think about me.

What I ask from this, and future posts, is that you at least think about what I have to say, before you totally disregard it. My advice might save you some time down the road.

And for today’s friendly Boomer advice:

Don’t live your life based on what you think others expect of you.

  1. It all comes down to validation. Heavy social media users and those who post unlimited selfies are hungry for others to notice and approve of this aspect of their self.
