Outsider Art… And Other Such Things

After several months of study and experiments I have settled on three basic versions of being artsy at RJsCorner. I have also renamed the general category to Outsider Art. This post will kinda explain what all this means.

A few months ago, when I came across the phrase Outsider Art. I immediately knew that it described me and fits with my current Life on the Margins theme here at RJsCorner. Like almost everything else in my life I am self-taught when it comes to art in all its forms. I am an outsider. So, instead of “My Artsy Side”, I changed the overall artsy description here to Outsider Art.

The current subcategories of Outsider Art include:

  • Doodles, at least to me are surreal depictions of things that frequently races across my very active brain. Sometimes they are simple things, but often they are quite complicated and abstract in nature. Doodles are most often self-generated, that is, they are usually not based on a predetermined image in my portfolio .
  • Line Art, You could say Line Art is the opposite of doodles. Line art gives you an image that is intended to be emotional and recognizable. Where doodles are abstract, my Line Art is intended to have a dreamlike quality and is made up of just lines without color or other embellishments. An example of this is at the right. This one was not created by me, as I am not that good yet.

  • Just Artsy includes all my other creative artsy outputs. It often includes taking a photo from my 50 years of traveling America and morphing it into my current perceived reality, whatever that means. Just Artsy can be almost anything.
  • Mosaic Of Life, is a project that started in 2024. Each entry is made up of a captioned 5×7 image and always includes a story of my life and times. The mosaic now includes about 175 pictures, posts, and stories which are all included on this blog. I have a wall in my RetCom apartment dedicated to this topic. This is an ongoing project, which is mostly completed, but won’t end until I end.

    1. Line Art just fascinates me. Its simplicity and innate beauty just might eventually be the primary landing point in my future artistic endeavors. Grandma Moses, here I come. 😎

Yes, Bob, keep exploring. That is what keeps us young.
