Goodbye to my µRV

Three years ago today I said goodbye to my beloved µRV. This is the last picture I would take of it as it was leaving the parking lot.

I started the conversion of my RJ Walters & Co. 1992 Chevy delivery truck in 2013. Between 2000 and 2007 it delivered hundreds of different custom designed furniture pieces throughout the Midwest. Then in 2013 I had a sudden flashback of John Steinbeck’s book “Travels with Charlie”. That book was about how he made a custom camper and traveled across the United States. I had already taken many trips across America “With Camera In Hand & History In Mind“. But this reading of the above book gave me the idea of doing what Steinbeck did.

It took five years to complete the design, fabrication and endless remodels to accomplish my µRV (µ meaning mini or micro) before it was seriously ready to hit the road. After my wife’s death in 2021, I took four long trips to finish off traveling through all 50 States. Then age caught up with me and I faced the fact that µRV travel was just to strenuous for a near 80 year old.

I had some great moments is designing and fabricating my µRV. The 40 sq ft cabin was perfect for my one-man traveling. Recently I have had a strong hankering to do it again, but soon realized I would have to do that solely in my dreams.
