I have written many posts here on RJsCorner over the past 18 years related to my “purpose in life”. I have finally come to realize that there is a Fundamental Purpose that remains with us throughout our life. But there are also Life Purposes that come and go throughout our time on this earth.
I struggled with the difference between these two types of purpose for many years. I think I have recently discovered the answer to this duality. I will talk about the Fundamental Purpose, which is more of a philosophical nature, in the next “Having My Say”post.
The remainder of this post is about Life Purposes
After 80 years on this earth I have finally come to learn that my Life Purposes change over time. My life purpose is now much different than what it was in my earlier decades.
So, What Is My Purpose In Life NOW?
I have had numerous Life Purposes throughout my life. I won’t bore you with the details. But, like all the other Life Purposes I have been struggling with What Now? I am about to finish up my 80th year on this earth surely I don’t need any other purposes. That reasoning doesn’t hack it any more than it did for all the other purposes I have lived through. Here is what I have come up with for this one:
What if my Purpose in Life is just to stay creative, alive, strong, and healthy… and do whatever makes me happy.
I don’t need to save people from their own idiocy. I don’t need to convince them to do what they know in their heart is right. I will leave it up the younger generations to figure that out and maybe convince their peers.
I don’t suddenly need to be friends with everyone I meet. Given my neurodiversity that would be a giant struggle. Hell, I don’t need for everyone to even like me. Just live my life doing things that make me happy.
