This Life or the Afterlife??

Source: This Life or the Afterlife – QuakerQuaker. I don’t spend much time worrying about where I will be after I die. Instead I try to spend my time just concentrating on the words of Jesus as found in my Bible.  By his words he shows us how to live a God pleasing life. Yes, in spite of what several current Christian denominations say, I believe it is possible to please God by doing, or at least trying to do, what he told us to do. God, unlike what some say, does not just view us as worthless pieces of snot who can do nothing … Continue reading This Life or the Afterlife??

Tolstoy and Christianity….

After watching the ending of a movie about Leo Tolstoy the other day I got interested in his life and writings. It surprised me to learn that he like Thomas Jefferson had written his own version of the Bible called the “Tolstoy Bible”. He again like Jefferson believed that the Christian church had strayed too far from the words of its founder Jesus Christ. I also learned that much of what Gandhi practiced come from Tolstoy’s writings.  Here are some words about that from Wikipedia: Tolstoy’s Christian beliefs centered on the Sermon on the Mount, particularly the injunction to turn … Continue reading Tolstoy and Christianity….

God Is….

I am by no means a sports fan but it was hard to not know about all the mania around Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos lately. There was much talk about how it was written that God had destined the Broncos to win the Superbowl this year.  The reason for this belief is that Tebow is a very visual Christian who is not afraid to show his faith in the public sphere. For that reason many Christians have latched onto him. He, not the preachers or theologians, seems to be the rock star of Christianity lately. In this country … Continue reading God Is….

I Believe….

I believe that most religious entities believe they are the only ones who wholly understand God. I believe that God is God and he will be what he wants to be which oftentimes is beyond our understanding. I believe it is folly but common for theologians to try and re-configure Him into their self perceived molds. I believe that Christ meant us to be primarily about action and not just adoration. If Only We Had Taken Jesus’ Words Seriously

When Jesus was on this earth he told us numerous times to be one as he and the father were one. If only we had listened and taken his words and life’s lessons seriously. I read recently that the very popular Christian author Ann Rice is giving up on all current Christian denominations. In the interview she stated that she is not giving up on Christ, just the present day organizations that espouse to follow him. She also said that there is just too much of a tie between Christians and worldly kingdoms; particularly those in the U.S. I … Continue reading If Only We Had Taken Jesus’ Words Seriously

I Believe….

I believe  that there is a spark of God in every human being. When one human kills another for any reason he is also killing a small piece of God. I believe that all people are created equal in the eyes of God. I believe that the first story of creation in Genesis 1:27 is more accurate than the second one in Genesis 2:21. The first says man and woman were created together and equal. The second story mimics the times it was written and makes woman subservient to the male. I believe that violence contaminates the very soul … Continue reading I Believe….

I Believe…

With this post I am going to start a new Sunday thing related to what I believe in regards to spiritual matters. I spent the last sixty years trying to understand just who God is and why he put me on this earth.  I have also spent the last four years diligently studying about one hundred books on theology and of other faiths beliefs. At this point in my life my beliefs and understanding of God are finally somewhat solidified. In these posts I will only tell you what I believe. I am in no way trying to persuade you one … Continue reading I Believe…
