No immediate bounce…

Source: Gallup: No immediate bounce for Romney after Ryan VP pick – Political Hotsheet – CBS News.

I am just not following all this presidential stuff like I used to but that doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion once in a while and this is one of those whiles.  It seems strange to me that the VP pick in the GOP is from the conservative base of the party. Usually you pick a candidate that will bring in some additional votes. The Republican party certainly needs that as they seem to alienate more and more people daily.

But on second thought Mr. Romney is not that popular with the base of his own party.  He won the primary process simply because he outspent/outlasted everyone else. So to pick a darling of the radical right is just to ensure he gets most of these guys. But since they make up only about 25% of the electorate who appeals to the other 75%?  Maybe, by “preaching to the choir” so to speak Mr. Romney is simply trying to avoid a Goldwater type election where he is tromped by his advocate in November?

I’m sure Mr. Ryan otherwise known as the “Doctor of Death for Medicare” will get his ticket the diehards of the party but I don’t think all those independents, especially us seniors, will be impressed by his choice.

But what do I know….

  1. It reminds me of the decision to pick Sarah Palin, though Paul Ryan hasn’t claimed he can see a foreign country from his front door. It is a narrow political decision, not a smart one. Mr. Ryan is determined to support the rich on the backs of the poor and elderly. It is easy to cut the deficit if you simply declare tens of millions of your fellow citizens not worry of your concern.

I just don’t understand how any woman, middle class person, or the elderly could vote for a Republican. The party has publicly painted a target on the backs of those folks.

    1. As usual we see things pretty much the same. I have three more posts about Mr. Ryan coming up next week. What I see is, as you say, just another politician….

    2. Bob, I don’t understand that either. I can only throw my hands up and say if they do vote for a Republican, they will get what they deserve. (Unfortunately, the rest of us are along for the ride. But then, that’s how it works in a democracy!)

  2. Hi Janette. Yeah I unfortunately also live in a red state. Except for voting for Obama in 2008 it hasn’t gone Democrat for president in 40 years and will likely not go democratic for another 40 years. The only major newspaper in our area, if they actually mean anything anymore, is owned by the Dan Qualye family. That should tell you just how biased they are.

The bounce I am referring to is in the polls. Even with Sarah in 2008 there was an increase in likely voters after her announcement. But, the radical Republican base is excited as they now have one of their own on the ticket. Everyone knows they just don’t trust Romney. They think he is a moderate, which to them is the same as LIBERAL nowadays.
