I am going to spend Wednesday’s post in the coming weeks on one subject and that is to try to show where we as country have been and where we might be headed. The series will be titled Into The Looking Glass. Last weeks post about what someone who was born in 1900 encountered during her life. This Wednesday series will present my personal version of that post.
One of the quotes that was burned into my brain as a kid heading off to college in the 1960s was
The Future Comes A Day At A Time
I didn’t have any idea what was going to happen or how I was going to pay for a college education, but I was determined to be the first in the family to get a college diploma. And the way to do that was to take every day as it comes and don’t worry too much beyond that. One thing that those words taught me was that the future is not something that miraculously happens but instead it is an accumulation daily efforts.
But sometimes something happens to change the direction of the future in ways that we never imagined. That is basically what this series is about. I will give you my version of events that changed the basic path of America in my lifetime and will predict how those changed scenarios might play out in the future well beyond me. Being an optimist at heart I won’t give you a Mad-Max future but instead one of hope and fellowship. One where a narcissist in the Oval Office is just a bad memory.
The series will cover six different eras that were part of my life by giving you my personal view of each of them.
Each era began with a fundamental change and ended with another fundamental change. I hope you stick around to see what I have to offer. Next Wednesday’s post will start the period between 1950 and 1980. The last era covered will be starting in 2025 and ending in Lord knows where.
