What If Neurodiversity Was The “Normal”?

I have spent almost an entire lifetime trying to figure out why I am so different from many others. It wasn’t until a handful of years ago that I discovered Asperger’s Syndrome, and many of those questions were answered. Being an Aspie is not about being defective, it is just about looking at life with a different perspective. People with neurological differences are called neurodiverse, or ND for short. NT, with is neurotypical is for those who primarily follow the herd so to speak. Neither state is wrong, just different. But, that doesn’t keep me from thinking about what if NDs were considered normal, and NT were the ones with the problems?

Can you imagine what a typical therapy session would sound like? I think it would go something like this:

“Quit staring at my eyeballs! Do you want to be known as a pervert!”

“If you want to avoid being labeled as lazy, start studying something in depth”. Your shallowness embarrasses me!

“Here you go again, just doing what others tell you to do”

“Why can’t you think for yourself? You will never get a good job until you can contribute some original thought!”

“You are paid to do a job. Quit spending so much of the workday socializing”

It is becoming a well-known fact that NDs make the best, most productive, and most loyal employees for many of the reasons above.
