Learn To Enjoy Solitude

I am in an endless search of my inner self. A requirement to get there is personal solitude, that is, being alone. I didn’t understand how necessary that was for me until quite late in life. Due to my Aspie traits my senses have always been hyper. Some smells, tastes, lighting, and tactical feelings are overwhelming. To that end I frequently require the elimination of these type things. I am quite comfortable in my own presence. I call this condition LOMO, life on my own. Here is a little more about my personal journey into solitude.

For the most part, the last five years have been in the LOMO mode. Yes, I am constantly surrounded by 200+ people here in my RetCom (retirement community), but when I close my apartment door, I am in my own private world. There is no one to tell me what to do, think, or say.  I have made my surroundings just the way I want them.

I am very comfortable being alone.

I am convinced that you too can more fully find your inner self through getting in touch with your intuition, smiling, laughing, crying, forgiving, and contemplating the questions of the universe.

If solitude feels threatening to you, start in small ways, perhaps just taking a few moments sitting quietly with yourself.  Be creative in coming up with ways you can on a regular basis spend time alone. Solitude gives you the opportunity to confront your inner self in ways that few other endeavors can. Out of your times of solitude come serenity, peace of mind, and unparalleled opportunities to connect with your soul. I find all that very appealing and I think you will too.
