Overthinking… My Way Of Life

The article from which these thoughts came caught me by surprise. Before I get into that, I still can’t fully perceive that my IQ puts me in the top 2% of the population. I learned that fact in my college days but would be decades before it finally sunk in. Let’s look at the link of intelligence and overthinking. Here is a quote from the article which is at the center of this post.

“Highly intelligent people spend a lot of time overthinking. They replay conversations word for word, reconstruct meetings from memory, trace outcomes back to a sentence that could have been phrased better.

These words describe my life. They often keep me up at night. Everything HAS to be right before they leave my active thoughts. This frequently drives me crazy, but I have finally accept it as just who I am. It seems that I too often wish I could just let things go without much thought, but then I realize that there are two sides to the coin. The other side is under-thinking, and that includes no thinking at all. Lord I am so happy that I am not on that side of the coin. In fact, I am joyous…

Sadly, there are just too many people in this world who seem to believe that thinking is the scourge of mankind. These folk love the idea of “gut-thinking”. That is being driven by their emotions instead of reasoning. Sadly, that seems to be where the majority of U.S. citizens are right now.
