I Thought Everyone Did That…

I recently came across at article by Jane Francis over at the Medium (click HERE to see the article) about 8 “Weird” Things that highly people intelligent do. Seven of the eight things just seem normal to me. I guess I naively thought everybody did them?

The author didn’t cite her references so I can’t give you that. But, I thought it would be interesting to go over the list to give you an idea of how I see them.

They often talk to themselves – I often talk to myself, especially when I am writing posts here at RJsCorner. When I repeat what I just wrote my brain often alerts me to a better word to use. But that doesn’t explain when I vocally give advice to the characters on TV. One funny thing about this characteristic was when my wife was nearing her end she told me that I often say out loud what I think I am only thinking. She kept that a secret to gain some advantage when we argued. 🙃

They often stay up late at night – This is one that I seldom do, especially in the last 10 years or so. I am definitely a morning person. I am undoubtedly more creative immediately after arising every day. For that reason my normal sleeping time is from 9pm – 5am, and I rarely miss that my more than a couple of minutes.

Sometimes they can look messy – I’m sure my work area looks terribly messy to most who see it, but to me it is more like organize chaos, which is pretty much modus operandi, for me.

They often ask too many questions – This has been one of my earliest traits. I almost always have to ask questions when something is not clear to me. Other times, my brain just wants to be exercised a little more.

They love being alone – This is so much of what I am I have even given it an acronym LOMO = “Life On My Own”. Since I am so naive socially, being alone is just much more satisfying, or at least less stressful.

They Overthink – Overthinking is just who I am and always have been. Sometimes it is an annoyance that I try to get over, but other times it helps me see things much more clearly.

When I took an IQ test in college I just could not believe the results. It told me that I was in the top 2% or so of the population for intelligence. Over the years I have found numerous articles such as this one that tell me what intelligent people do. After seeing all these things I am finally convinced that maybe I am an intelligent person, or at least I was before getting sooo old. But, being smart seems to also come with some challenging characteristics that I sometimes wish I didn’t have so much of…
