Growing Stuff..

Time for some more story tellin here. I think it would be boring (at least for me) to try and  tell my story in chronological order so I am gonna skip around some. All my life I have had a hankering to grow stuff and several times during my life flow I have been fortunate enough to do just that.  There is just something about watching something grow from practically nothing into something magnificent. Some of my earliest memories are of Mrs. Forrester’s flower garden on Park Ave. She lived next door to us in a very densely, you might say … Continue reading Growing Stuff..

James Madison, My Hero…

The 5-foot-4, 100-pound Madison designed the intellectual framework for the Constitution, including federalism and the so-called Virginia Plan — the blueprint that determined the structure of our government that emerged from the Constitutional Convention, with its strong executive, bicameral legislature and independent judiciary. He was a strategist who helped assemble the alliances and map out the plan necessary to the Constitution’s implementation, including the campaign of editorials later known as the Federalist Papers, the battle to ratify the Constitution in the crucial state of Virginia and the passage of the Bill of Rights in 1789. But despite these nation-shaping accomplishments, … Continue reading James Madison, My Hero…

I Try Not To Think…

I know the title to this post probably invokes a vision of a complete idiot so maybe I should complete the sentence up front. I try not to think about the dark side of life. That is quite a chore since there seems to be so much of it in the world today. I could tell you what I mean but then I would have to think about it and thus break my own rule… I have vowed not to think about things I get depressed over. I try to only think of pleasant things. I know I sound kind … Continue reading I Try Not To Think…

War and Families…

This post is a continuation of my story about my father and his early years. I know there there millions of families that have been seriously affected by all the wars we have been involved in during my lifetime. Some grievously damaged, some to a lesser extent. I see too many people who are still living with the wounds of my generation’s war and that is Vietnam. They can’t let go of their feeling and seem to live them almost daily. To what extent my father’s war time experiences effected the family is hard for me to grade. Dad graduated from … Continue reading War and Families…

One Big Soul…

I’lI try not to do it too often but I am gonna get kind of philosophical here. I ran across the following quote from my hero Woody Guthrie a while back. Ever’body might be just one big soul. Well it looks that a-way to me. Woody wrote thousands of poems in his life. Some he called lyrics and some he didn’t. This one, whichever it is, got me to thinking pretty deep. With ISIS and all that other terrorist stuff going on it seems like a big part of the world problems today is one religion fighting against another or … Continue reading One Big Soul…

I Miss You…..

A Snippet Here, A Snippet There.. I have a daily ritual that seems to be pretty constant. After I do my “morning business” I spend an hour or on the Internet to see what happened in the world in the last 24 hours. I am now pleasantly cruising over all the political news and most of the stuff from the Middle East. That stuff only gets me depressed…  But one part of the morning exercise that I enjoy is reading all my blog friends posts. Unfortunately most of my buddies from the last half dozen years are no longer around … Continue reading I Miss You…..

Sonny and His Sisters and Brothers

This is another story about my dad in his early years.  This one is about his brothers and sisters and his relationships with them. When starting these stories one thing that became glaringly obvious was there is really no photographic record of the Walters clan.  I don’t have any pictures of my aunts or uncles or even grandparents for that matter. They just didn’t seem to do pictures in those days. Maybe they were just too expensive? I inherited all the memorabilia of my parents and included in that was just a handful small photos and few legal documents. So, these posts on … Continue reading Sonny and His Sisters and Brothers
