About Deafness — Chapter 92

I realized that it has been quite some time since I put out a post primarily about deafness. But the title of “chapter 92” is kind of made up.  :)  This particular chapter is the result of an episode on the CBS News – Sunday Morning about being in an anechoic chamber. First off the program mentioned is not really about “news” but more of like On the Road with Charles Kuralt but with Indiana’s own Jane Pauley. Now I know I am dating myself with this reference but for those of you who don’t know about “On The Road..” check it out … Continue reading About Deafness — Chapter 92

San Francisco..

In this weeks ISOA post I thought I would finish off my report about San Francisco. Of course the first view is the Golden Gate Bridge, second is The Wharf. Don’t miss the Aquarium, it is one of the best in the country. We must have roamed about 6 miles one day throughout the neighborhoods. Not bad for a couple of senior citizens. Regretfully we never managed to get a ride on a cable car. As usual click on any picture to bring up a larger slide show view Continue reading San Francisco..

We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know

This post is a first review of a book by David Brooks called the Social Animal. It delves into the basic nature of man. David Brooks is a writer for the New Work Times and is a weekly regular of The PBS Newshour so I have a regular exposure to him. He is the conservative voice that I most admire in these current crazy times I found this a pretty interesting book about a little known topic. There is a revolution currently going on in trying to further understand the human psyche.  The main thing discovered is that we are not … Continue reading We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know

Free-Range Kids..

I know that free-range chickens are now quite a fad especially when you hear stories about the other method of raising them. I don’t know but I guess people tend to think that they taste better because they have a variety of weeds, stones, and such to eat. Myself I prefer the $4.88 roasted chickens from Sam’s Club. :) This post is not really about chickens but a story about my youth. I was definitely a free-range kid.  I roamed the neighborhood, at least a couple blocks of it.  As long as I was home for supper I usually didn’t get into … Continue reading Free-Range Kids..

Pope Francis.. Not Afraid To Speak Out..

To me the foundation of my spirituality lies in the words of Jesus in Matthew 25, particularly verse 40: ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Pope Francis almost wants me to return to my religious roots in Catholicism. He says inconvenient truths that so many other religious leader shy away from or completely disregard.  Verse 40 as cited above is the most often quoted verse in Matthew. Seldom are the verses before or after used as a pretext to that sentence. In those verses Jesus basically … Continue reading Pope Francis.. Not Afraid To Speak Out..

Fake News & Fake Stats..

I just wanted to pen off some thoughts about the topic of fake news.  The foundation of this new executive administration seems to be alternative facts and of course that has its foundation in fake news.  You can say something that is widely known to be a lie and pose it as truth and have people believe it. I fear for our society if so many of us believe such blatant lies. There is a reason that the George Orwell book 1984 is now one of the most ordered books coming from Amazon is because there are so many parallels to … Continue reading Fake News & Fake Stats..

Here’s To You California..

I will be the first to admit that I have only been in California on a handful of occasions and only once in the 21st century. But here is my gallery celebrating your State.  I visited San Francisco and those pictures will be coming soon. But for this gallery I want to concentrate on the central farm lands and such. Here is a gallery of that: As usual click on any picture to see a larger slideshow view: Continue reading Here’s To You California..

Not My POTUS…

Can you believe that we have actually survived the last ten days? It just seems infinitely longer than that to me…  Only 1451 more days before we can make a very necessary, no I will say absolutely critical,  change. I pray to God that it won’t be too late.  I have vowed here at RJsCorner to use the “T” word as little as possible so have been thinking of another way to identify him. I know that POTUS is a strong acronym for President Of The United States but somehow that just doesn’t ring true with me this time around. … Continue reading Not My POTUS…

Downtown Revitalizations..

Let’s face it most of our major city downtown areas fall into disrepair due to ever tightening budgets. Many try to revitalize their city centers and some are successful. One of those cities is Louisville KY. It has been a while since I was there but their “Fourth Street – Live” was quite a hopping place even in the middle of the week. They deserve my 5star rating for their efforts. It is a neat place to spend an evening. Continue reading Downtown Revitalizations..

The best God joke ever … Revisited

This is a revisit of a post I wrote here in 2012. It still applies today. Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Dont do it!”  He said, “Nobody loves me.”  I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”  He said, “Yes.”  I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?”  He said, “A Christian.”  I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?”  He said, “Protestant.”  I said, “Me, too! What franchise?”  He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?”  He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative … Continue reading The best God joke ever … Revisited
