Simon & Garfunkel had quite an influence on me growing up. Even though I haven’t heard any of their songs in almost 40 years, I can still recite many of the lyrics. The song that these words came from was called “The Boxer” from their album Bridge over Troubled Water released in 1970.
I kinda think that this quote is more relevant, at least for me and maybe for all those octogenarians still alive, than it was some 50 years ago. I simply can’t stand to turn on my news feeds to see we have taken another step to oblivion. Where I used to spend an hour or so reading the news of the day I now spend about 5 minutes. That is all I can take now. In order to keep my sanity
I Disregard The Rest…
I kinda think that is my new purpose in life but then again, maybe it has been all along. “Disregard the rest”… yeah, I think it is.

That’s a very deep question, Bob, with several possible answers. Of course, this post was about me personally. If I were going to be around for another several decades, I would continue to be active in assuring that our democracy survives these tumultuous times. But, I kinda think that I have had my chance and need to leave it up those Gen X, Gen Z, whatever else they are called. I think we Boomers did a pretty good job with Civil Rights, Age Discrimination, and other such challenges. It’s time for the above generations to take of the 21st century problems. But, then again we probably created some of current issues. So…, given my age, I choose to “disregard the rest”. 😎
