My bird feeders certainly get a lot of activity during the winter months. We feed about 100 lbs of seed a month during that time. One thing that always amazes me is that those coming to the feeder usually come in droves. The squirrels were here in mass this morning. There were four of them who did not get included in the picture! Soon the bluejays will come followed by the Cardinals. Later in the day it is usually a very integrated group. Continue reading Coming In Droves…
One of the most impressive city projects I have ever seen is the Wildnerness Park that extends through downtown Omaha Nebraska. I goes on for about a mile with bronze after bronze celebrating the buffalo that once populated so much of that State. Here is a rather extensive gallery/slideshow but it is still nothing like actually seeing them in person. As usual click on any picture to see a larger slideshow view. Continue reading Omaha’s Wilderness Park
For this 5 star Monday I wanted to show you a picture of one of my girlfriends. My wife doesn’t mind my love affair with her. I got her in April 2012 and she had only 7 miles on her. This picture was taken somewhere in Utah but I can’t really remember where.but I know it was her maiden voyage out west. This pic has been used on Chevrolet’s blog site so I guess they must have been impressed. I think “Sasha my sassy Sonic “looks pretty good with the like colored bluffs in the background. She now has about 40,000 miles … Continue reading Sasha in Utah..
Today I thought I would talk to you about my struggle with the inconsistency of the Bible. Philip Gulley who has written several books on this topic is a well know Christian author of the Quaker persuasion. He is one of my favorite authors of any genre. Let’s start this topic with a quote from one of his books. For what good is grace—this unconditional love of God—if it is not extended to those who deserve it the least but need it the most? God is love. Holiness and justice are not competing commitments. God has not chosen to turn his … Continue reading To Those Who Need It The Most…..
Since Saturdays have a pretty low viewership I thought I would start a new top level category of posts primarily for this day of the week. That way a few less of you will come to realize what a loony I … Continue reading Crayon Marks Scribbled Across My Brain..
It was down to zero degrees last night here in Indiana. I sometimes wonder how all my feathered friends cope with these conditions. The picture below is one that shows one way they cope. They get all puffed up to maintain body heat. Here is to you my friend. I promise to keep the feeder well stocked during these cold winter months so come back often… Continue reading All Puffed Up…
Omaha is perhaps my favorite city. It has a small town feel but is ripe with history and preservation. The sculptures strewn throughout the downtown area are awesome. It is also the home of the Durham Museum and Father Flanagan’s Boys Home. We spent four days there on two separate occasions and still haven’t seen all there is to see. For more pictures of Omaha click on the gallery page on the right side here. as usual click on any picture to see a larger slideshow view Continue reading Omaha…
I just took this picture looking out my back window. It seems this guy is waiting for dinner but there was no one at the feeder at the time.. Continue reading Waiting For Dinner…
As a young boy in the 1960s I was always fascinated with space exploration. I stayed up all night in 1969 to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the moon. So while I was in Smithsonian in 20111 I took numerous pictures of the space shuttle. This is perhaps my best one. Continue reading Space, The Final Frontier…
No I wasn’t out till the wee hours celebrating last night. As a matter of fact I was cozy in bed by my usual 11pm. So why I am confused that the new year begins on March 1? That … Continue reading Happy New Years – March 1
I am not going to make out a numbered list of things I hope to accomplish in this new year as those lists seem to quickly get lost in the spin of life. But there are some high level topics to be considered: RJsCorner I … Continue reading New Years Resolutions??
Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to vote for president in my State of Indiana. In my thirteen times voting, only twice has my vote actually counted. Now that the lines are much longer than they used to be … Continue reading One Person, One Vote.. It Ain’t Happening..
No the title above does not mean that this is a tribute to The Sound Of Music. But it is about two of my favorite things and that is Hoosier Cabinets and historical re-enactors. I was once in the business of making Hoosier Cabinets reproduction. They were the home baking center in the early 1900s in many rural homes. I also totally admire all those who help us to understand how life was in past ages. This picture was taken at the Prophet’s Town State Park near Lafayette Indiana. For my weekly bio post I thought I would talk a little about my blogging processes in particular but more generally about my thought processes which due to Aspergers is probably different than yours. Many of the more successful blogs around the Internet are niche blogs, that is they concentrate on one particular topic. Many that I read are of the retirement genre. Their readers pretty much know what they are going to get when they go to their sites. As they say like-minded people like to congregate together, especially during these trying times so they don’t want any surprises and … Continue reading I Am Just Not a “Niche” Guy…
“Time is money” is a well known phrase in the world today. If we expend time on behalf of our employer we expect to be paid for it. That seems to be a very American thing, my time is worth money is perhaps a bedrock of our capitalist society. Another tradition is overtime pay. That says that I will give you a certain number of hours a week of my time but if you intrude into my private life portion you must pay more for it. One of the things the Obama administration did is to make sure that employers are paying … Continue reading Time Is Money…
