RetComLife : What’s It All About.

With this post I am officially introducing RetCom Life. A big part of RJsCorner throughout its 18 year existence has been to give you ideas on how to address the things that have challenged me in my life, and there have been a lot of them.

The primary focus of RetComLife will about the struggles, joys, and everything in between I have experienced in finding and living in a retirement community for the last 5 years. I already have a list of 30 posts to include here. They will span a wide variety of things that will be helpful to everyone looking for the best retirement community fit, but will also be focused on meeting the needs of neurodiverse individuals, especially those who are deaf like me.

But first, let’s look at some syntax that will be commonly used throughout this series.

  • I’m pretty sure you have already figured it out that RetCom is short for “Retirement Community“. I will be using that term MANY times in this project.
  • A Neurodiverse person is one whose neurological makeup is significantly different from those in the mainstream of society. In the past they might have been labeled “Aspie, or most recently “Autistic” but those two terms are quickly losing their credibility among the people they are supposed to describe. Personally I call myself Neurodiverse or ND. Some final labels in this regard are for everyone else; they are commonly called Neurotypical or NT.
  • Let’s go on to merge the above two syntaxes into DNDDeaf/NeuroDiverse. I know this is a very small population. The last time I tried to figure it out it was 1 in 1.6 million but that describes who I am.

Much of RetComLife that will be applicable to both mainstream and neurodiverse audiences, so don’t be scared off by the “neuro” labels. I am also hoping that some of you will chime in when a topic is of particular interest to you
