Peace, Purpose…

This post is going to be about some of the lessons I have learned about having challenges in my life. Some revelations come from my readers and some were revealed by other methods. The picture above almost entails everything that is needed to appreciate this post.

Aspies & Empathy

It’s time that I put out another post about Asperger’s Syndrome and why I say I have Aspie traits. It is often said that Aspies don’t have empathy. With this post, I want to try to convince you that is not true using some things I have learned and with some personal examples. That is what this post is about.

Looking For Your Soul Mate

This post is about the journey of finding that person who makes you feel whole. The person who you want to spend your life with. What I say just might surprise you, especially coming from a seventy-three-year-old.

A Hidden Gem…

I was pleasantly surprised to come across a hidden gem during one of my uRV trips this summer. I have been through Dayton Ohio several times before but never really looked for a place to visit besides the Dayton Air Museum. What I found was the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Site.

Eminently Close To The Breaking Point!

It’s as if I had looked at the sun for too long. I simply can’t gather the words to put out an intelligent post of the main topic of the day. This guy has destroyed my peace in some of the last years of my life! With that in mind I am for at least the next few weeks going to be celebrating those who can say in a picture what would take me a 1,000 words to describe. I simply can’t imagine the filth that will be spewing out of the Oval Office in the coming days. Too many … Continue reading Eminently Close To The Breaking Point!

We Shall Meet In a Place Where There Is No Darkness

I wonder if there are any of you who recognize the words above as being from the book by George Orwell entitled 1984. I took up this book to read again a few months ago but really haven’t gotten very far into it, but that is as it is. The book was written in 1948 and was about a fictional totalitarian society, where there is no freedom except maybe in one’s personal thoughts — and those are communicated to others at risk of imprisonment or death. We Shall Meet In a Place Where There Is No Darkness This George Orwell … Continue reading We Shall Meet In a Place Where There Is No Darkness

USPS ..to.. FDD

Everyone knows that the United State Postal Service (USPS) has been in financial trouble since the 21st century began. That is not surprising given that most financial transactions now take place on the Internet. I can’t remember when I last mailed a bill payment through them or much of anything else for that matter. This post is about what may just be the future of the USPS and that is as a FDD.

Understanding MAGA…

I have made it my quest lately to try and understand the MAGA folks who voted for the current Oval Office occupant. They surely are not set on destroying our country but what drives them? I got a partial answer to that from a recent Fareed Zakaria program on CNN.

Staying Fit in your Joyous Retirement Years

I never thought I would be putting out a post on dieting. Will wonders never cease! But I finally came to the realization that I have been rationalizing about my weight for some time now. I have said I weigh the same as I did 10 years ago, so everything is fine. In reality, I have been losing muscle mass during those ten years, especially the last few. To put it bluntly, I have been gaining belly fat while losing muscle tone. I know that is not unusual for us older guys, but it is something that troubles me.

Having my Say about Taking Control…

I just returned from my latest uRV trip recently and the idea for this post came to me as I was traveling down a two-lane State road. I was going the speed limit, as I usually do in my truck when suddenly seemingly out of nowhere a young girl passed me going at least 30 miles per hour faster than I was.

It’s Them!!!

It just struck me in the shower recently that we seem to be living in two distinctively different worlds today that are weirdly occupying the same space in time. That phenomenon is not terribly unusual in the overall scheme of things, but the intensity of it is almost freakish now. The “Us vs Them” mentality seems to have caused a VERY deep chasm between too many of us. That is what this unusually long post a about.

This phenomenon has several different faces. Let’s look at some of them.

Seeking a Joyous Journey Rule No 11 – Don’t Get Hung Up On Stuff…

Capitalism in America demands that we buy more and more stuff each year. Without that insatiable drive we simply couldn’t grow as a society today. I think that needs to be basically changed to match the successes of the rest of the world. Instead of requiring us to buy more this year that last, maybe we should spend it on our infrastructure or, here’s a wild thought, maybe making healthcare a right instead of a privilege! Ok, enought soapboxing for now, let’s get back to the point of this post.

Now Let Me Explain…

I know the general impression of the last post probably was that I am not very happy with my marriage of 33 years. While that is true to a degree, I don’t really regret the choices I made in life. I take my vows seriously and would not think about quitting my marriage, especially now. Even though we might not agree on things, we simply need each during these final years. I think the crux of Monday’s post was that I was looking at today’s world and whether I would still marry if I were a 2019 college graduate just … Continue reading Now Let Me Explain…

Joyous Journey Rule #8 – Take the Dark Side In Small Doses

The dark side of life is kind of like a black hole, or maybe a Venus fly trap, it can suck you into its depths. and won’t let you go. If that happens there is no way for you to even fully dream of a joyous life. I must admit that much of the news from the world today is “dark side material”. Especially when it comes to politics. There just seems to be nothing good happening there recently. We shouldn’t drop out entirely from our political processes, but instead we need to take them in small doses. Kinda like … Continue reading Joyous Journey Rule #8 – Take the Dark Side In Small Doses

Seeking a Joyous Journey – Find Something

I’m going to let you in on my secret of life.  It has taken me seven decades of continuous searching to discover this secret. Find something you might enjoy and then do it. But maybe the real secret is to find the things you don’t enjoy and get rid of them as soon as possible. Personally looking at the back end of the process, I have found that the most freeing time in life starts with your retirement from the working world. This is a time you are no longer shackled to that 9 – 5 job. You can do whatever … Continue reading Seeking a Joyous Journey – Find Something

Seeking a Joyous Journey – It’s Never Too Late

I want to let you in on one of my dark secrets I have learned in life and that is, I waited way too long before I sought, or even realized, what a joyous journey could be like. Some people, and I am totally envious of them, figure it out much earlier than I did. I went through much of my life afraid of change. Out of college, I thought I had a good job that provided me with the security I thought I needed. But in reality that was a cop out. While I didn’t hate my job I … Continue reading Seeking a Joyous Journey – It’s Never Too Late

The Rise of “Mom & Pop” Businesses

I know one of the ranting points of many folks is how the “mom & pop” business have almost disappeared from America. But according to an article I recently read they are mounting a very striking comeback. Thanks to Amazon! Several of the items I have purchased recently are obviously from small and medium sized business. Amazon encourages small businesses to engage with them. They are not like brick and mortar stores who have only so much shelf space. Customers don’t have to roam down isle after isle to try to find what they are looking for. Amazon is an … Continue reading The Rise of “Mom & Pop” Businesses
