Socially Responsible Government?
It seems that so much of the rest of the countries of the world have learned that government by its fundamental nature must be a socially responsible institution. Yeah, we have “We the people…” at the beginning of our constitution, but lately we seem to be ignorant of what that means. Since social responsibility is one of my bedrock beliefs, I have been studying the Democratic field of presidential candidates to find those that have a socially responsible government as a core of their beliefs. I think I have found the candidate who epitomizes that arena.

MAGA/Evangelicals
I don’t like labels but there is a “but” in that statement for me. We need to understand just why the major conflicts arise in our world and then be able to see who is causing them. We can no longer afford a general “Us vs Them” mentality. If that keeps up it will eventually destroy us. Without knowing who “Them” is or what percentage of the population they represent we may just go down in ashes. That is what this post is all about.

I’m Canadian, We Don’t Do “Proud
I’m pretty sure my roots go back to Great Britain, so maybe that is the reason I have such a kindred relationship with things Canadian. They still have the basic sense of being British engrained in them. :) The quote above is from Martha Atwood who is Canadian and the author of “The Handmaid’s Tale”.
When I heard the quote in the title from her it made me think just how fundamentally different Canadians are from their southern neighbors. That and a photo gallery of my 2011-month-long visit is what this post is about.

Seeing The Possibilities
I am definitely a SciFi guy. I love watching almost anything in that genre. The Mad Max movies and that type of doomsday stuff is neat but I really get off on the things that show humanity on a positive note. I guess that maybe started with “Robbie the Robot” in the 1956 film Forbidden Planet. By the time the Jetsons cartoon series rolled around I was totally hooked. I just love thinking about future possibilities.

In Once Great Majesty
Just a simple picture for a dewey/foggy Friday morning. It was taken looking out my Study window. The maple tree on the right has definitely seen it better days. When we came here twenty years ago I thought of cutting it down. But I have since grown to appreciate her in her mature years. She is full of holes where large branches once resided that have now morphed into homes for many of the neighborhood squirrels. She is missing her leaves on top, but so am I. Being The CHEF Of Your Existence
It’s been an interesting journey trying to stay up on the happening of the Millennial and Centennial Generations. They seem to be learning lessons we Baby Boomer couldn’t make happen. One of those lessons is keeping your hormones corralled. I don’t think that suddenly the teenage years and slightly beyond have changed that much when it comes to hormones. So something else is taking place.

I spent five years in college working in a dormitory cafeteria serving about 600 people three meals a day. I started that time washing pots and pans and ended up running the entire student waiter staff of about fifty people. I learned many things about cooking and such in addition to how to be an engineer during those years.

Staying Fit in your Joyous Retirement Years
I never thought I would be putting out a post on dieting. Will wonders never cease! But I finally came to the realization that I have been rationalizing about my weight for some time now. I have said I weigh the same as I did 10 years ago, so everything is fine. In reality, I have been losing muscle mass during those ten years, especially the last few. To put it bluntly, I have been gaining belly fat while losing muscle tone. I know that is not unusual for us older guys, but it is something that troubles me.
